Beverley Grammar student joins FSSG for work experience

As First Step Sports Group continues to grow and develop, we’re committed to offering local people the chance to experience sports coaching. Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mason, a local Beverley Grammar student, for his formal work experience.

The 15-year-old helped the team deliver our programmes in schools and to a variety of children across the city, gaining first-hand experience in coaching, instructing, managing equipment, and engaging children. Under the instruction of our experienced coaches, he excelled, not only working with children but working with school staff onsite.

Coach Leah at Kids Takeover was especially impressed with his progress over such a short time adding:

“It was a pleasure to have Mason on my sessions. He impressed me with his initiative, putting out and putting away equipment on observing my actions. He was helpful, showing an excellent rapport with the children and confidence in his communication with staff. Best of all, he even offered some great ideas on how to adapt our sessions.”

“I would recommend him for a position working on our Kids Takeover camps in the future without a doubt! He showed a great deal of potential and would be a credit to the team.”

First Step Sports Group offers a varied group of skills to any volunteer or young person looking for work experience. Our coaches are always on hand to offer advice and encourage initiative across the business. For Mason, it was the growth in his confidence in all areas of his work with us, that was significant for him, he said:

“I really enjoyed the week of work experience with First Step Sports Group. I found it beneficial to work with the different year groups at all their schools. It was great delivering various sporting activities including running, cricket, and javelin. The coaches I worked with were very welcoming, informative, and encouraging during the sessions and I felt I came away with confidence in coaching lots of different sports.”

Working with children and young people is part of our commitment to the communities we work in. At FSSG we offer volunteer work and work experience to anyone from 16 to 18. Whether you want to join KTO holiday camps during the school holidays or help us deliver PE provisions in school during term time, FSSG is your oyster!
