At First Step Cycle, we are always looking for ways to embed active travel into your daily life. Next month, we’re encouraging everyone to get walking for the Brake’s Kids Walk to raise money and awareness of the health benefits of walking, for children and our local environments.
Brake is a road safety charity that holds this annual event to get thousands of children working a short, supervised walk simultaneously across the country. With the help of Shaun the Sheep and Brake’s freely available resources, you can plan your own walk from any meeting point right up to the school gates!
Walking is a great way to increase a child’s readiness for learning and an easy way to help children engage with their local environment safely. If you’re looking to plan a route, consider quiet streets, zebra crossings, and even some natural flora fauna to help you steer children’s learning towards being safe on the road.
Brake has made planning your walk easy too! Routes need only be around 500m, giving you ample time to find a convenient meeting spot, with an average of 10 mins walking journey. It’s an opportunity to get parents, carers, school volunteers, and your local shops involved by showing support or even supervising your walk.
Brake provides a wealth of resources to help you plan your walk and continue guiding children through the process of staying safe on the roads.
Join us and get walking this June!
