First Step Cycle supports NHS workers with Rusty Riders program

Cycle skills for the road are essential skills for keeping healthy, safe and for sustainable transport. With the increased level of high-pressure situations for NHS workers, First Step Cycle instructors have been delivering the Rusty Riders program to support local NHS staff. The Bikeability inspired program is designed to train adults in safe, confident road cycling.

Contractions of COVID-19 have put a huge stress on NHS workers who have been working incredibly hard for their communities. For many, double and even triple shift hours have become the norm.

With this in mind, Rusty Riders training has provided NHS workers with an opportunity to learn some safe biking skills away in a pressure-free environment. We have run 8 sessions of the fully-funded sessions with the NHS since May 2021, with 25 staff members and counting benefitting from improved cycling confidence.

Our Rusty Riders sessions are great for small groups and individuals and is a great way to exercise on a regular basis. Reports show that cycling in the UK has increased by nearly 50% and with infrastructure upgrades planned for the next year, there has never been a better time to start Rusty Riders!

Contact the team to get you or your organisation booked in to renew some of those cycling skills today!
