How apprenticeships are shaping the next generation of cyclists

At First Step Cycle, we’re passionate about developing future sports coaches—and our apprentice Jacob Dennis is a great example of how hands-on learning can shape a career.

Jacob has been working with us while completing his Level 2 Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship, gaining valuable experience in coaching cycling and active travel sessions across Hull. From delivering Bikeability and Rusty Riders to pedestrian skills training and after-school clubs, he has supported children and adults in building confidence on two wheels.

“The apprenticeship has provided an environment which pushes me outside my comfort zone and has challenged me to acquire new skills and gain valuable real-world experience.”

Jacob’s passion for coaching extends beyond cycling, with a keen interest in working with children with SEND and a long-term goal of becoming a PE teacher or launching his own coaching company.

We’re proud to celebrate his success and look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next!
