National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day draws in nearly 23 million people across the UK

One of the biggest days in the industry of public fitness, National Fitness Day was a glowing success, with nearly 23 million people gathering to celebrate physical activity last month. People across the country celebrated the day in local gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, schools, and clubs. With varying activities and ability levels, the day brought everyone together under the banner of fitness.

The day kicked off with industry professionals holding a group exercise session televised by ITN and ukactive. Award-winning PT and best-selling author Laura ‘Biceps’ Hoggins was joined by Jess Mcdonald and Sarah Durnford, Les Mills Master Trainers at Jubilee Hall Gym in Covent Garden.

‘Fitness Unites Us’ was the theme for the day, with school children downing tools for their synchronised 10@10. Aimed at establishing the benefits of fitness, children across the UK participated in 10 minutes of fun physical activity at 10 am!

The event, first organised by énergie Fitness Founder Jan Spaticchia, was a great success, with many participating on social media under the hashtag #FitnessDay. CEO of ukactive, Huw Edwards added:

“We hope that by uniting through fitness today, more people can experience the benefits of physical activity and in particular the mental strength and resilience it can bring to our lives.”
