- Course cost: £250
- Course duration: 2-6 months
- Registration period: 12 months
How can I book?
All participants can book directly on our website and pay online through the course link. Participants who want to book through an employer should have their employer book through the website or request an invoice to make payment.
How do we assess you?
All participants must complete a portfolio of short answer questions that assess their comprehension of the task content. There are 11 tasks in total, including but not limited to, your role and responsibilities as a coach, nutrition, and safe coaching practice.
The course is designed to be progressive, outlining all the key features of coaching, and representing the most up-to-date coaching methods. The focus of those is practical skill and proficiency, so participants will be required to deliver and evaluate 4 linked and progressive activity sessions in their own live coaching setting.
As the course is online, participants will be able to upload a recording of their sessions live stream through a video platform of their choice. Options include Zoom, Skype, and Google Hangout. If necessary, please contact First Step Training if you need filming guidance or a participant consent form.
What can I expect when I complete my online portfolio?
On committing to the course and registering with First Step Training, all participants are responsible for completing all tasks and presenting them in their online portfolio. Assessors will then provide feedback or mark the work as complete. If there is feedback provided, please note that corrections will need to be made before the portfolio task is marked as complete.
When all tasks are complete, an internal verifier will assess your online portfolio, checking your level of competency within 7 days of completion. If you are successful, an application for your certificate will be made in your name. Please note certificates take between 7-10 days to arrive and an electronic copy will also be provided if necessary.
Who do I contact when I am completing the course?
Each participant is assigned a tutor whose contact details will be provided to you once you are registered for the course. Your tutor is responsible for your progress and will check and mark any submitted work once a week. Tutors will provide you with necessary feedback and are commonly available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
How long do I have to complete the course?
Participants have a maximum of 12 months to complete the course. If your work is not completed within this period, the qualification registration will be cancelled. You will need to re-register to complete the course and attend all workshops from the beginning.
What if I haven’t completed all areas of the course?
A monthly email is sent to participants as a reminder of any work that has yet to be completed. If your portfolio is not accessed or qualification progress has not been made for two months, your portfolio will be archived. To continue with your course, you will need to follow the instructions provided in your ‘Notification of Suspension’ email to gain access to your course.
The participant is responsible for keeping their tutor abreast of any new developments or difficulties they are having completing the course. It is possible to make your portfolio ‘live’ at any time, but participants must contact First Step Training to have this actioned.
What if I need to take a break from the course?
If you do find that for any reason you are unable to complete the course in the allotted amount of time, participants should contact their tutor with an explanation. In the event of a reasonable circumstance, your registration can be extended for a maximum of 24 months. To make this an effective learning experience, contact your tutor, who can provide you with your advice and guidance in the event of problems.
